that the 1st (Ga.)
Regt. had been attacked by 7 Federal Regts. but held
their ground killing 162 of the enemy and losing but 1 man (West Va. campaign),
early march thru Portsmouth and its fields
where there were the “ebony faces of real genuine darkies peering at
us from the cornfields resting on their
plow or hoe,” marched to near Ft. Monroe, made camp and could see the
blockading squadron, review by Genl. Huger, marched back to Camp Gwynn,
description of camp life and the unbearable heat, afraid they won’t
see a fight and will be branded as “the
Regt. that sat out the war.” (Ironically soldier MWIA at Antietam.) VF-XF. $475.00.
